  Dithiolene Noble Metal

The Dithiolene Noble metal dyes of our 4000 series differ from the 3000 series (Dithiolene Nickel)  in that the coordinated metal is a noble metal.  Accordingly the dye prices are much higher than the 3000 series.

The presence of the noble metal has a profound effect on the properties of the dithiolene dyes.  Generally, the absorptivity of these dyes is greater, the thermal stability is superior and the visible light transmission is greater than their nickel counterparts.

The peak absorption of the platinum dyes are 30 to 40nm lower than the nickel dyes; The peak absorption of the palladium dyes are correspondingly higher.  Thus a  series of platinum to nickel to palladium have peak absorptions that cover a range of 60nm.

This relationship makes it possible for Epolin to offer a series of dithiolene dyes that covers the range of 700nm through 1100nm at approximately 30nm intervals.
